rabbit heart

You turned a lion hearted kitten
Into a rabbit hearted girl

But I don't mind
Your kiss is a rabbit's foot
In my pocket

And in the luxury
Of my interrupted memories
I see the ecstasy
Of new-found epiphanies

My rabbit heart is in your keeping
Outside of my body
I would do anything to protect it
And I would die without it

A kit is helpless
But worthless
I stand on my own two feet
Only to be shot for my pelt

Who is the lamb and who is the knife?
At any rate
You and I are still rather harebrained

But despite our jackal love
You are the Dauphin
And I am not your Dauphine

You turned a lion hearted kitten
Into a rabbit hearted girl

But I don't mind
Your kiss is a rabbit's foot
In my pocket

  1. Thought Rabbit Heart was a very original poem.

Yes, a kit is a baby rabbit. Such pink things they are!

    "Jackal love".

That "helpless"/"worthless" verse really shows the difference between the narrator and a kit.

    Keep beating rabbit heart!

  2. Loved the elements of the monogamous animals like the Mandarin ducks and the jackal.
