Listen.
I know you can hear me,
You just choose to drown me out.
It's my body,
And my life,
So hear me out.
I am so tired of 'has to be',
I am so tired of 'meant to be',
I am so tired of 'that's just how it is.'
Since when have we been so narrow minded?
Since when have we been so opposed to choices?
It's my right,
Because it's my life,
Leave me be.
One day when I'm tall,
And I have lines on my face,
Maybe you'll listen.
Maybe you'll give me the power over others,
A power that is not yours to give.
But I live now,
Before then,
I still have a voice,
I should still have a choice,
Youth is still a part of life.
Don't tell me I don't know what to do,
If it's my life then I can make my own mistakes.
Don't talk about me as if I can't hear you,
Don't understand you,
Don't think I'll just nod blindly and say 'yes'.
I'm sure the Gods gave me a brain for a reason,
It wasn't so you could hijack it.
Who are you to tell me when I can do what?
I'll do what I want,
Nothing you can do about it.
Why is the law against me for this?
Since when have we ignored human rights?
This is a kind of discrimination, you know,
It's no different from black slavery,
Because even though you haven't bruised me,
It's still a form of child cruelty.
I am who I am,
And I don't know who you are,
To tell me what to do,
Because I am,
As you say,
'Too young'.
Listen.
Please.
I'm forced to respect you,
So respect me.
Listen.
Please.
Do you remember what it is to be ignored?
Listen.
Please.
Listen.
Stand up for what is right. Support child and youth rights.
"I don't think that being a strong person is about ignoring your emotions and fighting your feelings. Putting on a brave face doesn't mean you're a brave person. That's why everybody in my life knows everything that I'm going through. I can't hide anything from them. People need to realise that being open isn't the same as being weak."

Rate My Teachers.
I don't understand why teachers are so upset about the controversial 'Rate My Teachers' site. I mean, especially politics teachers. They should know all about freedom of speech, because that's all they ever bloody preach about, before telling us to shut our mouths and do some work.
Okay, I know. Some students will never like somebody as a teacher no matter how hard that said teacher tries. There will be some students who will be moany and whiny and petty and put unfair comments on the site.
But we're not all like that, and treating us like that isn't going to make you get straight fives. Buzzinga.
It is really not all that hard to be a satisfactory teacher, a teacher that can create an environment of mutual respect, so teachers should take their own advice and 'shut up, stop making excuses and get to work'.
We're an elite school, okay? We're not stupid. We know if a teacher is being a deliberate pain in the ass because they hate life and they hate how their student trumps them in everything, from IQ to fashion. We have teachers in our school who should genuinely die in a whole, and we have the right to say things like that. Teachers are in a position of direct power over people who have no say, and now we do have a say. As Sheldon Cooper would say, niner-niner.
Teachers who are moaning about how all their students will be sparked into a full scale rebellion should know that if they were any good at what they're supposed to be doing then you get nice comments written about you. Every day I get bullied at school by teachers who are scared of their own shadow. So now it's my turn. Buckle up, bitches.

Things you should know before going to high school in Australia.
1. You have to walk to every single class. Get used to it.
2. You cannot store anything in high school desks except bubblegum. Depending on how big your school is, you may be allocated a locker or a shared locker, or a locker the size of a thimble.
3. When addressing teachers, female teachers are always 'Ms', because high school teachers (unlike primary school teachers, who seem to suffer a case of permanent verbal diarrhea) rarely divulge personal information, including maritial status. Male teachers are always 'Mr'. You can also call female teachers 'miss', especially if you don't know their name, and male teachers as 'sir' (althoug not sire, because that's just weird). Some teachers like nicknames, some do not.
4. When walking in and around the school campus, keep to the left at all times.
5. There is a hierarchy when it comes to giving way: Wheelchair/crutcher/blind people, important people in suits that you've never seen before, Principals, teachers, year twelves, year elevens, year tens, year nines, year eights, administration staff, other. When you move up the hierarchy and those below you do not follow it, feel free to push right into them.
6. High school teachers tend to be much more cynical than primary school teachers. Get used to it.
7. You can't believe everything high school teachers say - you do not need to pass math or science to get 'somewhere in life'. Up until and including year ten it is perfectly acceptable to slog off on subjects that you don't like, although you do have to try hard at at least one or two subjects.
8. Be prepared to forge notes. Lots of them. 'Please excuse X from attending P.E as she has injured her ankle....spear fishing. Signed, X's Mom'
9. Need I tell you that there is a lot of homework? Don't worry, you don't have to do it all. Most teachers forget about homework after you haven't handed it in after about three months.
10. You're gonna have to suck up to some teachers to stay in the good books, and so someone will vouch for you when the SCIENCE TEACHERS INVADE.
11. Health teachers are irreversibly perverted. Prepare for some lovely hours of dildos, condoms and graphic pictures of penile diseases.
12. If you ever get busted for wearing too mucn makeup or jewellery, the best excuse is 'it's for religious purposes'.
13. If you think your teachers are dumb then administration staff are a whole lot worse. I doubt you will be able to comprehend any of the typo-riddled, gramatically incorrect messages sent home.
14. Uniform shop ladies are awful. Come armed with a parent.
15. There are no playgrounds in high school, and you only get a half-hour lunch break, however if you are sneaky about it you can eat at unconventional times - I have managed to eat an entire sandwich, an apple, a juicebox, and a packet of chocolate biscuits in a science lab with nobody noticing. Some teachers eat in class and don't care if you do either.
16. Infuriating teachers is a hell of a lot of fun. Be sure to remind the teacher who always confiscates your cell phone that it's against school policy to answer a cell phone during class next time he spends three hours chatting to his girlfriend when he's meant to be teaching you geography. At the next social, plan a 'shirts-off' time - at a certain hour all (buff) boys take their shirts off and start dancing with the girls. It drives teachers crazy.
17. Have fun!

New Poll.
I've been on a Shakespeare spree today.
Next year for lit we're studying Hamlet, so I tried to give myself a head start.
I don't really like it. They all die at the end, and then some random comes in and takes the throne. WTF?
The plays on the poll are the Shakespeare plays that I am familiar with.
In case you're interested in my opinions of the plays:
romeo and juliet: I don't like romeo, but I like the play. Who doesn't?
a midsummer night's dream: to be honest, it's the only Shakespeare comedy that I like. As the RSC famously put it, 'the tragedies are funnier than the comedies!'
macbeth: my favourite Shakespeare play.
hamlet: don't like it, don't get it.
the taming of the shrew: sexist...although I did like Ten Things I Hate About You :)
So there you are.

Something You Miss
I don't know how to be something you miss.
It's just that I don't think of endings,
I just wanted to know what it would be to be kissed.
Let's make this clear,
I should have told you real clear and slow,
I don't miss you,
I stopped missing you a very long time ago.
But you were my metaphor,
I thought you were an open door,
You represented something that you took from me,
I thought it was my property.
You were a symbol,
That came crashing down,
You were a usurper
Who stole my crown.
I guess I shot the messager,
And people don't understand,
How just three days could hurt me so bad,
But I don't miss you,
I miss what I could have had.
It takes two seconds to get over a person like you,
But it takes more than two years to get over the idea,
That I might have something that I used to think would make me complete.
I cried your name,
So my pain would have a face,
I had to fly my arrow at something.
I flattered myself with could be's,
And let you flatter yourself into thinking
That I let you get to me.
And I've kept my silence,
Because I was too proud,
But now I admit I hated you,
Because it was easier hating you,
Than hating myself.
So this is me saying sorry,
I don't forgive you,
But I'll admit I buried you in my pain,
And just kept your name.
In the movies there was always a boy to blame.
I needed a boy to blame for things that I couldn't control.
I had to blame someone,
I couldn't face blaming myself,
I told myself it was your fault,
Because you weren't exactly without fault.
I made a villain out of a villain who was still a kid.
And for that,
I guess I'm sorry.
Although I know that it never really bothered you.
I never knew how to be something you'd miss.
So,
Here we are.
I hope it's nice where you are.

If you don't mind me saying, I do know I may seem kind of narrow minded.
I'm a teenager. I haven't seen enough or heard enough to, I don't know, publish an academic paper based on my opinions and back them up with reliable sources. Which is why I am a student who is still learning who has a blog, not a professor who has a paying job and a stack of publications to her name.
So please, give me some leeway if I don't back up all of my rants with reliable sources.
I started this blog because I believe, due to the aforesaid perception of narrowmindedness, I am dismissed almost entirely by the society that I am, supposedly, a part of. But despite the fact I don't know how to reference my work Harvard-style or that sometimes I feel I have to write things and I know nobody would ever back me up, doesn't mean you can't discount what I say entirely.
I admit my views on religion are controversial, although to be perfectly honest (in true Sheldon style) I really cannot see why. Trust me, if you were me you won't really be too enthusiastic about the idea of some dude who can basically do anything to us. At least I don't plan on blowing up people who disagree with me.

Happy New Year!
To all my beloved readers I hope that you have a safe, adventurous, blessed and meanigful year. For the new year I would like to share with you a little wisdom I learned a long time ago:
It's not what you do, but what you don't do that you'll regret. It's not what you say, but what you don't say that you'll regret.
And it's not who you should be, but who you are that will be remembered.
I hope you have a very happy 2011, and you will be hearing from me very, very soon.
Lady Renegade.

Being Shallow.
A phenomenon that's often struck me is that people assume that nerds have no concept of social norms or structure, and so it's perfectly okay to treat them as if they don't.
Let me tell you something. We do understand society, possibly better than most normal people.
But we think it's really stupid.
If the world functioned based on what brand lipstick you wear with what pair of shoes to match with perfectly styled hair and an airbrushed face, then let's face it, the human race would be dead by now. It seems to me that the world is supported by smart people who don't even get brownie points for what they do. But I understand why it's the standard we try and live by: because it's easy to manipulate. Beauty is ever changing and oh-so-subjective, and anyway, beauty you can fake, and pretty convincingly, too, what with all the new technology that (smart people) have been spewing out these days. If I wanted to (or, more accurately, if I had the money or the parents stupid enough to let me waste my life) I could change the very core of who I am and bluff my way through an image-based society, become one of the soulless airheads that we all seem to look up to.
But brains are harder to manufacture. There's no glamour in being brainy, because people have come to fear intelligence so much that the role of the academically gifted has come to be merely supporting ungrateful beautiful people we now call the social elite.
People are scared of opinions - if we go by the stereotype then beautiful people have no opinions of any significance, although the reality is that many of them do have some very strong and good opinions but feel forced to suppress them by society. Smart people have opinions - my whole blog is based on my own opinions, and I can spew out more than ten posts a day if I'm on a roll. People are scared of opinions and try and knock them down with snide comments and mean retorts that can make you feel like shit, I suppose. It's a gift that I do have, though.
It's social convention that makes me want to have a nice haircut, pluck my eyebrows, shave my legs, wear makeup. Even I'm buckling. It's amazing how something we create can get so wildly out of control.
Well, that's the view from the bottom, anyway.
It is actually quite hilarious, as an outsider rejected by the social hierarchy, to watch as people have to bite their tongue and force smiles in the name of this web that we've created for ourselves. People have no idea how fun it is to barge into a clique you know you have no hope in hell of being accepted into, just to see their reactions. Seriously, you should try it sometimes. It's exhilarating.
